St Mary Joseph Yesus Catholic Church, Liliba: A Symbol of Faith and Togetherness

theolingua.id – The St Mary Joseph Yesus Catholic Church (YMY) in Liliba is a place of worship that plays an important role for Catholics in Kupang City. As a place of worship that continues to grow, this church is a symbol of the community and the perseverance of the congregation in building a solid house of prayer.

Each stage of construction reflects the spirit of mutual cooperation, with the congregation actively participating in creating a better and more comfortable place of worship.

The construction process of the YMY Liliba Church began with strong determination and full support from the local community. It is hoped that the church will be completed in 2025 and become a symbol of strong faith for the congregation and the surrounding community.

With a magnificent structure and a design that is intended to accommodate more congregations, the YMY Liliba Church is expected to become a centre for spiritual activities that support the growth of faith and strengthen relationships between congregations.

History and Development Process

The construction of the YMY Liliba Church began in 2017 with the aim of providing a larger and more comfortable place of worship for the congregation. However, the construction of the church faced major challenges when the Covid-19 pandemic struck, causing the project to stall for two years. Nevertheless, with a spirit of togetherness, rebuilding continued, and to date it has reached 60 percent completion.

The church building is quite large, reaching 29 metres in height, 50 metres in length and 20 metres in width. Construction is being carried out in stages to ensure that each part can be properly completed within the available budget. To date, construction has focused on completing the altar and the main part of the church, with additional materials being added gradually.

Funding and Participation of the Community

One of the things that distinguishes the construction of the YMY Liliba Church is that the source of funding comes entirely from the congregation. Without involving funds from the government, all construction costs are obtained from voluntary donations collected through 24 Basic Community Groups (KUB) spread across eight regions. Each KUB is expected to contribute 250 million rupiah, adjusted to their respective abilities.

In addition, the church also receives assistance from donors, both from Kupang City and outside the region. This support is clear evidence of the togetherness and commitment of the congregation in creating a proper and comfortable place of worship for the entire Catholic community in the Liliba area.

Hope and Future of the YMY Liliba Church

Currently, 20 workers are actively involved in the construction of the church, which is ongoing with the hope of being completed on target in 2025. Each stage of construction is adjusted to the available budget, so that the process can run smoothly and continuously.

With the completion of the St Mary Joseph Yesus Catholic Church Liliba, it is hoped that the congregation will have a place of worship that is not only physically magnificent, but also capable of becoming a spiritual centre that inspires and strengthens relationships between people.

The spirit of mutual cooperation that has been demonstrated during the construction process is also expected to be maintained, so that the church can continue to grow and become a place of worship that brings blessings to many people.
